African climbing mice are found in a variety of habitats at elevations ranging from sea level to more than 4,300 meters. Although these animals are sometimes said to occur mainly in trees, Rosevear (1969) pointed out that positive and reliable recorded evidence that they are arboreal is almost nonexistent.
